Safe Image Area - Gathering Information

The industry needs to understand the REAL situation in REAL theaters for how much of the image makes it on the screen. We know that some of the image falls on the curtains - but how much?

This is needed for many reasons - the two most important are 1) to help film makers understand where titles can be placed so they are viewable on the screen 2) to help filmmakers decide how to frame shots.

We need theater’s help in making measurements and submitting them to the SMPTE committee that is studying this in detail. The procedure should be:

1) Get DCP from ???

2) Load the DCP in your server and show on screen

3) Make 12 measurements for flat, 12 measurements for scope

      Example: Scope L1 - 45; L2 - 50; L3 - 55; T1 - 125; etc Flat: L1 - 105; etc.

4) Send them to John Hurst (jhurst@utac.net) with a screen identifier

Thanks!
